Pledge 1:
Get Unplugged Pledge
If one millions stylist or therapists unplugged there cell-phone chargers when not in use they would save over 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year, which is equal to the weight of almost 5.5 millions cell hones!

Pledge 2:
Skip a Trip Pledge
If 500, 000 salon/spa owners, stylist or therapist helped by skipping one 20-mile trip per week, they’d keep almost 10 million pound of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. That’s the equivalent of keeping 800 cars off the road each year!

Pledge 3:
Get in the Pool Pledge
If a million stylist or therapist around the globe, (those that live a couple of miles from work), were to car pool, ride a bike, or take public transport, they’d each prevent about 790 pounds of carbon dioxide emission in a year. Collectively it would prevent over 395,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year from polluting the air.

Pledge 4:
Take the Load Pledge
If 500, 000 salons/spas ran their washing machines only when full instead of half full, they could save over 27 million pounds of carbon dioxide over a year. That’s the same amount of carbon dioxide that is produced by the energy used to power 700,000 homes in one day!

Water

Pledge 5:
H2o Pledge
If 500,000 salon/spa owners and their employees saved enough water in their homes to replace just 15% of water them and there families use to water their lawns and flowerbeds, they’ll save 4.5 billion gallons of water over the course of a year. That’s enough water to keep New York City hydrated for more than four days!

Pledge 6:
Royal Flush Pledge
If 500,000 stylist or therapist no longer used the toilet as a waist basket and flushed the toilet one fewer time per day, they’d save up to 45 million gallons of water in a month.

Pledge 7:
Plug It Pledge
If 500,000 stylist or therapist washed dishes in a plugged sink and used just five gallons of water, they could save up to 9.5 million gallons of water each time they do the dishes. By washing dishes this way, they’d save enough water to fill 14 Olympic-sixed swimming pools!

Pledge 8:
Take Note Pledge
If 500,000 stylist, therapist, salon and spa owners, each bought one notebook make from 100 percent recycles paper, over 200 gallons of water would be saved for people and animals who really need it. That’s enough to give over 16 million people a shower!

Waste

Pledge 9:
The One Pound Pledge
If 500, 000 stylist and therapist each recycled just one more pound of their waist in either the salon/spa or at home, they’d reduce the amount of waste going to landfills and incinerators by close to 2,000 tons.

Pledge 10:
Recharge it Pledge
If 500,000 stylist or therapist switch to NiMH rechargeable batteries for just one game or toy that requires four batteries, they can prevent up to two billion batteries from going to landfills.

Pledge 11:
Wrap it Pledge
If 500,000 stylist or therapist replaces just three sheets of wrapping paper with reused paper or newspaper next time they’re giving a gift to someone, they’d save enough paper to cover over 100 football fields!

Pledge 12:
Bag it Pledge
If 500,000 stylist or therapist opts out of using just 15 plastic bags for one month, they could prevent as many as 7.5 million plastic bags going to landfills!

Habitat

Pledge 13:
Clean it Pledge
If 500,000 salons and spa’s replaced just one 34-ounce bottle of their regular cleaner with a natural-based cleaner, they’d prevent over 40,000 pound of chemicals and toxins from being released into the environment.

Pledge 14:
I Compute it Pledge
If 500,000 stylists and therapist each donated an old computer so that someone else could use it, they’d help keep almost two million pound of lead, a toxic metal, out of landfills.

Pledge 15:
White Sands Pledge
If 500,000 stylists and therapist each cleaned up a stretch of beach about 10-feet long, together they could remove 500,000 pounds of debris from 1,000 miles of beach!

Fun fact:
The Chinese made the first recycled paper. It was made from old rags and fishing line….. This was 2,000 years ago.

Guess where 25% of clean water goes? Down the toilet when we flush.

Just during the holiday season, the average American family creates 25% more waste. (That’s five million tons of extra trash).

In March 2002, plastic bags in Ireland started to be taxed at 15 cents a bag. (So each time you choose to take a bag at any store, you have to pay 15 cents on top of your purchase.) Now plastic bag use has gone down there by 95 percent!

In March of 2002, Ireland imposed a new tax on consumers which charges 15 cents per bag at places such as the grocery store. They have successfully decreased the amount of plastic bags used by 95%.

The energy used to make a battery is about 50 times greater than the energy it actually emits once it’s made.

There is a town in Japan that separates their waste into 34 categories. By doing this, they estimate they’ll be 100% waste free by the year 2020. This about that the next time you’re separating your paper and plastic.
