On ya bike… China!

by admin on November 6, 2010

I bet you didn’t know this…

It takes roughly 120,000 gallons of water to construct a car. It takes only 35 gallons to construct a bicycle.

Need we say the planet is suffering a global water crisis right now?  Maybe the folk in China have a bigger handle on this than we think. Just imagine the water savings those guys are creating every time some wee child finally gets their hand-me-down cycle for their birthday? Not so silly after all right?

But truly, if current trends continue, then we’re going to end up with a serious shortage of drinking water.  So we need to sort it out.  NOW.

So, let’s consider the most essential component of your salon or day spa.  You’ve got it – water.  But never fear.  I’m not going to tell you to drain them all down, fill them in with earth and start growing potatoes – heaven forbid!  No, what I want to do is to share with you over 46 industry specific initiatives to help you reduce your water consumption.

And here’s the good news.  If you get your head into my manual, (meaning you have to buy the little sucker, so hop to it), I’ll explain how you can make significant savings without impacting on your guests experience or level of service WHATSOEVER. Oh, and did you want another reason?  You’ll save money in the process, (Oops, I think I’ve already said that).

Just think, what a bonus to be able to tell your customers that not only will frequenting your salon or day spa will give them a wonderful experience, by visiting your establishment, they are making a positive step to ensuring that they too reduce their impact on the global water crisis.  WHAT A GREAT ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN!

So come on, pull your finger out.  Read my manual and start changing things – today!

Oi you, Bag Lady!

by admin on November 6, 2010

Yes, I’m talking to you!  Have you ever pondered how many plastic bags our not so small industry waists each month?

If 500,000 stylist or therapist opts out of using just 15 plastic bags for one month, they could prevent as many as 7.5 million plastic bags going to landfills!

Shocked?  You will be when you read what I have to say about one of the most harmful issues we’er faced with just now. I made a promise to myself I’d make you aware of how much you throw away that could actually be reused and also what those items you do throw away are doing to wildlife, sea life and us!  I’ll let you in on 18 industry specific initiatives on how you can run your salon or day spa far more cost effectively, and in a way that the planet will thank you for.

Every day, each and every one of us wastes countless precious resources such as energy, water, paper and plastic.  I want to share with you an abundance of tips on how to reuse those resources, therefore minimising your carbon footprint.

And there’s more good news as well.  If you follow my tips, you’ll save a shed load of money in the process and be running your salon or day spa in a green and ecologically friendly way.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to suggest you hang your used teabags on the washing line, or have the whole family bathing in the same two inches of water.  No, my advice is useful, practical, easy to follow and above all, is actually worth doing!

So come on, what are you waiting for?

You will be astounded at what you can actually reuse in the day to day running of your salon or day spa. All you need to do is to take that first step and read my manual.  Prepare to be amazed at how little effort it actually takes to start saving the planet, not to mention your hard earned dosh.

You’ll never know them, those kids in the future who’ll inhabit planet earth.  But you can bet your ass they’ll be thanking you for it. (Unless they’re those ungrateful little buggers like I was as a child right?).

Doesn’t that sounds more like middle school all over again :(

Think of how much water we’d save if every middle school kid reduced their royal flush bully antics by just one victim a day? Yet on a serious note fathom this not so little statistic…

If 500,000 stylist or therapist no longer used the toilet as a waist basket and flushed the toilet one fewer time per day, they’d save up to 45 million gallons of water in a month.

So, how about if I told you how to save some money whilst still running your salon or day spa up to your usual, exacting standards.  You’d be interested, right?  And I’m not talking just a few cents here and there, oh no.  I’m talking proper money, thousands of dollars ever year.  Now we could all do with that, couldn’t we?  Not only will you have more spending power in your wallet, but you’ll be doing your bit to reduce your carbon footprint as well.  So it’s a win win situation from every angle.

My manual will let you in on 18 salon and day spa industry specific initiatives on how to reduce your consumption of precious resources, such as water, energy, plastic and paper.

Come on!  It’s easy.

I’ll let you in of a multitude of small and simple steps which, once you’ve discovered them, you’ll never be without.  I’ll explain how to replace energy guzzling features and appliances, not to mention practices, and replace them with ecologically friendly alternatives.  After all, we all want to help save the planet, and if you save a bit of money along the way, so much the better.

Stop! Don’t be a scumbag… scumbag!

by admin on November 6, 2010

Did you know that if 500, 000 stylist and therapist each recycled just one more pound of their waist in either the salon/spa or even their home, they’d reduce the amount of waste going to landfills and incinerators by close to 2,000 tons.

This got me thinking and inspired me to stop, look around me and take inventory of what was going on in the spa on a daily basis. I was amazed when I found out exactly how much of our rubbish could be recycled.  In the day to day running of your salon or day spa, I bet that I can help you get organised to recycle nearly all of your waste.

My nifty manual includes 43, industry specifics on the safe and legal way to dispose of and recycle your trash.  Note that I’ve used the word ‘legal’, because mark my words, there’s a hell of a lot of illegal dumping going on.  And that doesn’t do any of us any favours.

Now, I know you’re not one of those scumbags – because you wouldn’t be reading this in the first place.  You have a conscience; you’re interested in being ecologically friendly.  So then, what exactly can you do to ensure you can classify your business as a green spa, or green salon, without it costing you a huge amount of time and effort?  Well, my friend, that is what my manual is all about.

So start right now, take that first step.

You’ll be gobsmacked at simple and easy tips I’ll share with you to help you recycle your salon and day spas waste products.

And here’s the rub!  If every single one of us took these steps, then not only would the whole planet benefit, but the production costs would come down and we’d all end up saving money in the meantime.  So go on, pull your finger out.

Go Green today.

So what about my beer fridge?

by admin on October 7, 2010

Are you ready to commit to saving ENERGY?

And I’m not talking about putting the fridge next to the sofa so you don’t have to walk to the kitchen to get a beer, no siree… Although, not a bad idea right?

What I’m referring to is the most eco-friendly way of running your salon or day spa. Think reusable energy resources and using green alternatives to reduce your carbon footprint.

You may well think that you’re already doing your bit, but I sure as hell bet that there’s loads more you could be doing in the day to day running of your salon or day spa. My manual will make you privy to over 30 industry specific initiatives to help you take advantage of many ‘green’ energy alternatives. Well, 31 actually. I think that fridge next to the soft has to be one of them now…

All jokes aside, I’ll give you tips on how to negotiate and engage your landlord and energy supplier to help you switch to a more environmentally friendly way of using energy.  After all, if you can run your salon or day spa in a way that reduces your carbon footprint, then it won’t only benefit you, it’ll have repercussions for the rest of mankind, (and no, that’s not an exaggeration, or too deep of a statement for ya, it’s the truth, so suck it up). And don’t forget the world we’ll be leaving for the future generations to enjoy.

So, c’mon.  Take that next step.

Grab ya-self a copy of my manual and start to change your ways today. (I promise it wont hurt). Make your salon or day spa as energy efficient as possible.  After all, you’ll be doing your bit, for the planet, (no more guilt), and putting some green, (no not pot silly), cashumondo in your hip pocket! AWESOME!
